Allergens and food safety — please read

Do not rely on this site for allergies or medical dietary needs. Menu content is supplied by restaurant owners and by community contributors. We do not check, verify, or audit it.

When you choose things to avoid, dishes are marked, not removed. Every dish stays on the menu with a label saying what was found and where that came from. You can turn on "hide dishes I avoid", and then a dish is removed only when something was actually found in it — never because nothing is known about it. A dish nobody has annotated is always shown, and is marked to say so.

Allergen labels come from the restaurant. A dish with no allergen information at all stays visible, and the absence of a label does not mean a dish is safe — it means nobody has said anything about it. The same applies to preparation notes such as "raw fish" or "unpasteurised dairy": "not checked" means not checked.

Some markings are produced automatically by reading the menu's own words — a dish whose description says "wheat flour" may be marked "may contain gluten". These are labelled as such wherever they appear. They are not statements by the restaurant, they are not checked by anyone, and they can be wrong in both directions: a dish may contain something its text never mentions, and a word may be read to mean something it did not. The absence of one never means a dish is free of anything.

The numbers 1–14 printed beside an allergen are the European Union's list (Annex II of Regulation 1169/2011). They are shown beside the name of the allergen and never on their own, because in some countries — Germany and Austria among them — letters are used for allergens and numerals for additives, so a bare numeral would mean something different.

If you have an allergy, an intolerance, or a medical condition, confirm what is in a dish directly with the restaurant before ordering. Nothing on this site is medical advice.

What this service is

OpenFood displays restaurant menus and lets you build an order and show it to restaurant staff as a QR code. We are not a restaurant, not a delivery service, and not a party to your transaction. We take no payments and confirm no orders. The service is free and offered without any guarantee of availability.

Accuracy

Prices, opening hours, availability, ingredients and every other detail may be wrong or out of date. The price that counts is the one the restaurant charges. The service is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

Contributions

Content you submit — menu corrections, photos, notes — must be yours to share. By submitting it you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to display and distribute it as part of the service. Accepted contributions appear on public pages.

Do not submit content that is false, abusive, infringing, or promotional, and do not use the service in an automated way that degrades it for others. We may reject contributions and block accounts.

Service messages

Having an account means we email you about it: what happened to something you submitted, and decisions made about a restaurant you claimed or help run. These are part of the service rather than marketing, and we send no marketing at all.

You can switch off every category of these on your profile, except the two confirmations about deleting your account — we are obliged to record that you asked and that we acted, and telling you is part of that.

We email nobody who does not have an account here. Inviting somebody onto a restaurant's team gives you a link to send them yourself; we do not send it for you, and we never write to an address somebody else supplied.

Notice and takedown

If content here infringes your rights, or you own a business and want a listing removed or corrected, contact us and we will deal with it. Address below.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, consequential or special damages arising from your use of the service. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Minimum age

You must be 16 or older to use an account on this site.

Changes, governing law and jurisdiction

We may update these terms; continuing to use the service after an update means you accept it. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel, and the courts of Tel Aviv-Yafo have exclusive jurisdiction.
